Money can’t buy love (yada yada yada), but here are our tried and tested top picks of 7 purchasable things your cat will love! The Amazon links provided are affiliate links ๐
1. Dunelm Teddy Blankets (click here for the affiliate link)
I know what you’re thinking: why would I buy a super-soft blanket to then give to an animal that might make it disgusting? They don’t use loo roll! You would be right in principle… They definitely don’t use loo roll (not for its intended purpose anyway).
But when your furry feline friend creeps up onto the furnishings you swore they’d not be allowed on (and promptly reneged on because they’re so darn snuggly) and slowly kneads the blanket, looking so zen you’re surprised they’re the same animal… Trust us, it’s worth it.
Yes, the blankets don’t look as great after the wash, but when they’re worn out, you can grab another (at little expense) and share something with that furry little beast in your home: a snuggly blanket.
You can see our Mimi enjoying one of our blankets in a TikTok video to the left! It’s something both our cats love and actually bond over, so this is pretty much a cert.
Here’s our affiliate link to the blankets, which come in a variety of sizes – small is fine! Dunelm is currently having a sale, so some of the small blankets are as low as ยฃ4 (10/02/2023)!!!!
2. Cat scratchers
Sometimes it’s good to go back to basics. Your cats need scratchers – plural!! Loads of scratching posts aren’t big enough – what you’re looking for is something your cat can stretch against while they’re scratching.
If your cats like to tear things up (hello sofas and stairs), watch what their preferred source is and try to replicate it. You can get sofa protectors – we’ve not tried these as our cats don’t currently go for the sofa, but if you’ve got an issue, there’s probably a solution out there!
3. Ball toys
Now, balls can be a bit hit and miss depending on your cat… But just because they’ve not necessarily shown interest before doesn’t mean that a different material or a bit more time might not be the answer.
We love these soft foam balls (left) because they’re light and our cats randomly pounce on them… like kittens! We tried just having one out at a time (because they get under all sorts), but it’s also a lot of fun to roll them around your cat…!
The blue ball toy is something Sonsie isn’t a massive fan of, but Mimi loves. Again, anything that enriches either is a win in our book. Mimi lays on her side and bats at a ball… then looks a bit confused when it comes back at her. The added bonus of this one is that the balls aren’t easily lost…!
(Phew, almost halfway through 7 things your cat will love!)
4. Treat puzzles
Again a potential hit-or-miss, Mimi loves these. We love Nina Ottossen’s treat toys because they’re gorgeous and you can arrange the treats in different compartments. We started off with the green leaf (left), then moved onto the raincloud (right) which is precious. Something to be aware of is that the joints will break if stood on… As expected, but they’re on flat surfaces so bear it in mind!
5. String toys
Flipside: Sonsie loves a string toy: she runs around until she can’t anymore. Considering how reluctant she is to move most of the time, it’s hilarious – and goes to show that your kitty just needs the right incentive. Mimi’s gone off these recently, but doesn’t mind a feather toy that looks like her tail… Perhaps we’re reading too much into it. Or perhaps she’s a weirdo.
6. Those treats
Some treats are ones cats cannot say no to. These creamies are it for our cats.
7. Brushes
Quality time with your cat can be brushing their fur. We started off with the Ferplast brush (which is great because it’s got two options), and then tried out the brushing gloves, which are a bit gimmicky but when you’re stroking your cat and get fur all over your hand, these just make sense…!
That concludes 7 things your cat will love!
